Optical-sensory assault! Pictures of the orientation at Monash:
I was tasked with giving a short introduction of the MUSA Council to the freshies, as well as emceeing a couple of orientation games.
And these were on the first day. Second and third days were spent leading groups of freshies on a tour around the campus. Because most of the buddies were almost as new to the campus as were the freshies, we got lost quite often...
And now, the obligatory camwhore photos:
As you can see, I got addicted to taking photos of people in motion...
And finally, the jolliest (depending on how I look at it) of all things that have occurred to me during the holidays:
Holy crap, 87 for Business Law! All that practice/studying paid off!
Bloody hell, 67 for Macroeconomics! I'm so fucking pissed with this unit because of the impossible word limits set by Dr Wan Leong Fee for our assignments (which, as it turned out, was not compulsory to follow even though the assignment question said "SHOULD NOT exceed", plus a verbal reminder from the Doc himself) and the fact that being unable to hunt him down to deliver my second assignment made me lose 2 marks off my final grade. Thus, I'm now a proud owner of a Credit-grade unit...a pimple upon a clear face.
GAAAAAH!
There goes my resolution to get 8 HDs this semester (like it was even comprehensible in the first place).
Pointless Fact of the Day: Fact: Zhen Yao gotta rush off for something right now, so watch this space! Hopefully he writes in something interesting...
So, after nearly three weeks of holidays and no updates in the meantime whatsoever, here's a reasonably massive one to whet your appetite. I hope the lot of you will be adequately satisfied.
First of all, my brother didn't win So You Think You Can Dance; he lost to Alam (his roommate of three months) with 30% of the votes compared to the latter's 33% (out of a total of 160,000 votes cast). Well, at least he got off being a runner-up (though the RM50,000 paycheck would've been a nice addition to the family funds). He's doing fine and dandy these days, actually. People are recognising him on the street, and a couple of offers have been coming in. I'm not at liberty to mention exactly what, though, in case I violate an obscure clause in his audition contract(s).
Can't do this no more.
Next up is YKLS's first concert performance for this year as an opening act to the choir of Trinity College of the University of Melbourne, singing three songs. It was an Astro-sponsored concert at the KLCC Plenary Theatre on the 1st and 2nd of July, and I must say that the place was bee-yoo-tee-fool. Unfortunately, with my lack of professional musical training, it's a little tough to write about the musicality of the performance , so I'll just post up a picture and be done with it. Tip: Next time, come to one of our performances!
Notice the presence of white people. WHITE PEOPLE!
There was a MUSA council meeting on the 4th, but there's normally nothing interesting about council meetings anyway, so...
Which brings us to Friday the 6th. I was to help out for Monash's orientation the following week, so I had to attend the so-called "Buddy Orientation Program", which involved a number of entertaining, motivational/team-building activities and talks, as well as lots and lots of references to 300 ("Buddies! What is your profession?!" // "A-Hoo! A-Hoo! A-Hoo!"). Yeah, you just had to be there to understand how silly it was that day. Oh yeah, have I mentioned that the new Monash campus is bee-yoo-tee-fool?
Then over the weekend would probably be considered the highlight of my holidays; a two day, one night trip down to Melaka with the SJBA mates with whom I'm gonna organise a camp at the end of the year. I'm too lazy to elaborate too much of the trip, so once again, pictures will do most of the talking; suffice to say, we ate a lot and talked a shitload of crap during the two-hour ride. Furthermore, we had a walkie-talkie in each car for 'communication'... You go do the math.
My ancient 3.2-megapixel camera ran out of battery after only one day. Meh.
Our apartment was known as the "Crystal Tower". Sounded like something straight outta a fantasy roleplaying game.
Stock boy band pose #47651.
The cheery looking fella on the right is the uncle of the slightly-less-cheery looking fella in the middle, and one of the coolest hosts ever. Plus, he has a Nintendo Wii in his house!
Lien Chai in a money suit.
The touristy Fort A'Famosa. Nothing terribly interesting there.
Satay celup for dinner/supper/sunner/dipper, ZOMG!
Rawr!
Took a number of jumping shots, smashpOp-style. Check out our pimped-up invisible rides!
See, Hear, and Speak No Evil.
No trip to Melaka is complete without a meal of Chicken's Balls Chicken Rice Balls.
There's a lot more where that came from, but not everyone has given me the photos they took yet. And thus I came back from the Melaka trip on Sunday evening, went straight for choir practice, and then prepared for orientation at the new Monash campus the following day (Monday the 9th). Unfortunately, I'm far too exhausted to post up the orientation pictures right now, and my good friend Mister Darren Ng Peck Yun has yet to pass me the über-cool photos he took during the week.
So hang on tight for part two, everyone!
Pointless Fact of the Day: You can't sleep standing up. I tried.
Oh alright, that wasn't exactly a fact. How about this: You can't lick your elbow.
